Reports & Certificates
See what you receive after every erasure: a signed report that opens with a one-page certificate and continues with a detailed summary. Open the samples below for File Eraser and Autopilot Detection.
Report
What a D-Secure report contains
Every D-Secure erasure produces a report automatically. It is built for two readers: the person who needs a one-page answer, and the auditor who wants the detail behind it.
Page 1: the erasure certificate
The first page is the certificate. On a single sheet it states that the erasure was carried out, what it was carried out on, which method was used and what the result was, together with the report ID. This is the page you hand to a customer, attach to a disposal ticket or file with an asset record.
Page 2 onward: the summary
The following pages hold the detailed summary behind the certificate: the drive, computer or files involved, the erasure method, verification results and timestamps. When a question comes up months later, this is where the answer is.
The same structure applies across products. A Drive Eraser report covers whole drives sanitized with NIST SP 800-88 Clear or Purge methods. A File Eraser report covers the files, folders and traces you selected. An Autopilot Detection report records the device's hardware details and its Windows Autopilot or Intune enrollment status.
How reports are protected
A report only works as evidence if nobody can quietly change it. D-Secure reports are signed when they are created and recorded on the D-Secure side.
Digitally signed
Each report is signed using SHA-256 and a 2048-bit key. Changing even one character after signing breaks the signature, so an edited report no longer checks out as authentic.
PDF and JSON
The PDF is the document people read, print and archive. The JSON version carries the same data in a structured form for import into asset management or ticketing systems.
Ledger and repository
D-Secure keeps a ledger of erasures in its backend. Your own copies sit in the report repository of the admin dashboard, next to the users and licences you manage there.
Checking that a report is genuine
Anyone who receives a D-Secure report, such as a customer, an auditor or a buyer of used equipment, can check it without an account.
- Find the report ID printed on the report. Drive Eraser IDs start with DS-ERASE-; for File Eraser, use the report number shown in your dashboard.
- Open the report verification page and enter the ID.
- The page tells you whether D-Secure issued a report with that ID and whether its signature could be confirmed.
A report can be verified once it has been uploaded to the D-Secure cloud. Verification by verification code and by PDF upload is coming soon.
Using reports in audits
Signed reports help you document that data was sanitized, when and how. Store them with the asset record of each device and keep them for as long as your retention policy requires. Which regulations apply, and what they expect, depends on your sector and country. To learn how the certificate is produced and how erasure results are confirmed, read the certificate generation guide and the verification methods guide.
